The Light lighting design by Hoare Lea, Leeds – UK

Hoare Lea was appointed to produce a lighting design that would give a step change to the centre’s appearance, working alongside DLG Architects, the project architects. Part of the redesign was to raise the quality of the internal lighting and increase illuminance.

Oasis of light by Wink, Utrecht – Netherlands

WINK created a serene oasis of light to stimulate the way to key locations as McDonald’s and MediaMarkt. Existing light tubes were placed in a V-line, making it work in two directions.

Comprised of three different elements, the attendees will be able to experience a large-scale sculpture made with illuminative rays called “light vortex’”controlled by a software; a light canopy where visitors can go through sound and light called “light cave”; and an interactive feature called “light cords” where the crowd can make music by touching the light lines, generating the sensation of being inside an instrument.

Using various floral fixtures, designers clustered one hundred and eighty handmade Blossom Pendants to serve as an elegant ceiling feature as well as a wayfinding element to guide customers into the adjoining retail space. The pendants, a part of LightArt’s Artisan collection, are crafted to stand on their own or in clusters, with flowing hand-shaped petals in soft neutral hues.

Made from birch plywood, stainless steel, and concrete, the installation generates ever-changing perspectives depending on the time of day, weather and climatic conditions. Sited on the edge of a rocky cliff and overlooking the sea and nearby city, “dynamics in impermanence” is also an exploration into how photography can break down the authentic artistic experience.

The pavilion lighting is programmed over twenty minute cycles, that begins with all lights on and then sees them cross fading from east to west over three minutes, followed by a pause of two minutes in darkness (full eclipse) and then a slow east to west cross fade back up to full brightness.
